Exaggerated Claims and Intense Guidance Doesn't Reach Everyone The Same

"If you're not getting better, you're getting worse."

"If you're not moving forward, you're going backwards."

"You can't stay the same."

Variations of the above echo through certain niche circles. Many times they appear as quotes on memes and in everyday popular culture. The idea is progression is the main objective to almost any endeavor we decide is important to us. If you aren't progressing, there is no forward movement and your ability to gain skills, knowledge, or acquire any objective measure becomes less likely. Although staying the same is essentially why many of us decide to change in the first place, there are plenty of individuals who find contentment in remaining on an even plain. And being able to maintain a routine that is executed each day, even without huge improvements, is itself progress.

For the large majority of individuals who seek coaching or begin a journey of their own, being stuck in the same place is the catalyst for setting new habits and activity in motion. But if you elevate your daily routine to a place that gives you satisfaction, and you commit to that quota daily, not progressing in the traditional sense is OK. And with time as a legitimate factor pushing back on us every single day, maintenance is the primary goal for so many people.

So don't become discouraged when you hear someone who is an extraordinary achiever dismissing all efforts that don't result in the greatest outcome. Sometimes we just have to hold fast in our habits and slowly realize our goals over time, which for some, is to not lose any ground. The daily grind doesn't bring about large change overnight. But patience and determination do. So keep moving forward to best of your ability. Because even if it's a snails pace, you're still moving faster and doing better than your counterpart who never started.
